Spatz Adjustable Gastric Balloon

Ready to Make a Change?

Since the Spatz adjustable gastric balloon allows volume adjustments, it offers higher long-term success rates and helps establish healthy eating habits.

When we talk about “change,” it shouldn’t just mean weight loss. Thanks to its adjustability, Spatz delivers longer-lasting effects that guide you toward a healthier overall lifestyle. It helps transform both your eating habits and your overall relationship with food.

Why Choose Spatz3?

  • Non-Surgical & Outpatient Procedure: No surgical incisions or lengthy hospital stays.

  • Quick Recovery: Return to your daily routine shortly after placement.

  • Adjustable Volume: The balloon size can be increased or decreased according to your progress and comfort.

  • Higher Success Rates: Proven clinical outcomes for sustained weight loss.

  • Behavioral Transformation: Builds healthier eating habits and a balanced approach to nutrition.

Is the Spatz Balloon Right for Me?

You may be a good candidate if:

  • Your BMI is 27 or higher.

  • You have no history of prior bariatric (obesity) surgery.

  • You are seeking long-term habit change, not just temporary weight loss.

  • You do not have severe kidney, liver, or heart conditions.

  • You have no drug or alcohol dependency.

  • You are not currently pregnant.

Spatz Balloon Placement

The gastric balloon is inserted endoscopically through the mouth into the stomach while the patient is under mild sedation. Once in place, it is filled with sterile saline solution. Patients can typically leave the clinic within a few hours. If needed later on, the Spatz balloon can be adjusted (deflated/refilled) or safely removed.

Initial Placement (Insertion) & Patient Preparation

Before placement, patients undergo thorough medical screening to evaluate their suitability. If necessary, blood tests, a chest X-ray, and an ECG may be required.

  • Pre-Procedure Diet: Starting 24 hours prior to placement, all patients must follow a liquid-only diet. From midnight before the procedure, nothing should be consumed by mouth (fasting).

  • Adaptation Phase: During the first 3 to 5 days following placement, mild discomfort and nausea may occur. This is a natural reaction as your body adapts to the foreign object. Medications will be provided to help minimize and manage these symptoms smoothly.

Spatz Balloon Adjustment

The balloon’s volume can be modified through a quick 15-minute endoscopic procedure.

  • Preparation: Starting 3 days before the adjustment, patients must follow a clear liquid diet for all 3 daily meals and fast completely after midnight prior to the procedure.

  • Procedure & Recovery: Performed under sedation, this process allows patients to be discharged within a few hours, just like the initial placement.

  • When is an adjustment needed?

    • Volume Reduction: If you experience prolonged or severe nausea and vomiting, the balloon volume can be decreased to improve tolerance.

    • Volume Increase: If your appetite increases, or if weight loss slows down or plateaus, the balloon volume can be increased to boost satiety.

Balloon Removal Procedure

When your treatment period is complete (or if removal is required), the gastric balloon is safely removed endoscopically while under sedation.

  • Preparation: Patients must follow a liquid diet for 3 meals a day starting 3 days before removal and fast from midnight prior to the procedure.

  • Post-Removal: You can be discharged within 1 hour following the removal.

  • Long-Term Support: A comprehensive 12-month behavioral and nutritional support program continues after removal to ensure your results last.
